The ILDS is a unique umbrella organisation for professional dermatology organisations of all sizes. We represent dermatology at the highest level through our ‘official relations’ status with the World Health Organization (WHO), championing dermatology and skin health to ensure its inclusion in global health policy.
Membership of the ILDS brings together national, regional and international dermatological societies from around the world to create a unique community working towards the ILDS’ vision of ‘Skin Health for the World’.
Our Members play an important role in the ILDS. From delivering treatment and training through our programmes, to helping develop our strategic objectives, ILDS Members are at the heart of our Society.

Classes of membership
ILDS membership is available to dermatological societies and those working in the field of dermatology who meet the criteria for membership of one of the following membership classes:
Member Society
For the main/primary national society of dermatology within each country working within the field of dermatology - representing members from its own (one) country (such as AAD or SIDEMAST). In countries where there is more than one national society, proof may be required that there is little/no overlap of members. 50% + 1 (majority) of its members MUST be dermatologists and the Society MUST have been established/ registered for more than 4 years.
Affiliated Society
For international or regional dermatological societies of dermatology or national specialist societies working within the field of dermatology - representing dermatologists internationally or regionally (such as EADV, CILAD etc) OR national specialist societies of dermatology (such as the lymphoma, photodermatology or MOHS for example). 50% + 1 (majority) of its members MUST be dermatologists and the Society MUST have been established/ registered for more than 4 years.
Observer Society
For societies within the field of dermatology that are not yet eligible to become a Member Society or Affiliated Society ie. those who meet the criteria but are under 4 years old. Also includes those who have applied for Member / Affiliated Society Membership and have been approved in the year preceding a World Congress of Dermatology (category changes following the WCD year).

In accordance with the ILDS By-Laws (2023 revision), ILDS membership fees are dependant on the class of membership and the country that the Society is registered in.
For the purpose of calculating ILDS membership fees, each Society shall be assigned to an income level based on the World Bank website. Countries indicated as Lower Income or Lower Middle Income will fall under the ‘Lower’ category and Upper Middle Income and High Income will fall under the ‘Upper’ category.

How to apply?
The ILDS welcomes applications from those who meet the eligibility criteria set out above. Dermatological societies can apply for either Member or Affiliated Society membership. However, membership may only be approved as Observer Society if they meet the criteria but are under 4 years old or apply in the year preceding a World Congress of Dermatology. Please do ensure you are applying for the correct membership class based on your particular Society, as explained above.
Application notes
During your application, you will be asked to provide the following so please make sure you have this information available*:
- Official registration certificate for your Society confirming non-profit status.
- Details of your Society’s officers to include the current President, Secretary-General, Treasurer, Vice-President and Organisational Liaison. This MUST be provided on official headed paper for your Society.
- Articles of Association/Constitution/Bylaws of the Society outlining the governance for your Society including how Board Members are elected.
- Confirmation of a named Representative to represent your Society at all General Meetings as outlined in Clause 9 of the Articles of Association.
- Confirmation of total membership numbers, fee-paying membership numbers (where applicable) and the percentage of members who are dermatologists.
*The official language of the ILDS is English and, therefore, all supporting documents MUST be provided in English. Failure to include these may result in a delay in your application being reviewed.
Following your application, the documentation will be reviewed by the ILDS Membership Officer to ensure all the required information has been submitted. You may be contacted if further information/documentation is required at this point. The application will then be sent to the Membership Committee for review and a recommendation will be made to the ILDS Board of Directors at the next scheduled Board meeting.
Following the Board meeting where your application is reviewed, you will receive official notification of the outcome of your application within five (5) Working Days.
If approved, your notification will also include an invoice from the date of approval to 31 December for the first year. The decision may be revoked and your membership application terminated if payment of the fees is not received in accordance with Clause 11 of the Articles of Association.
