World Skin Health Day 2018
Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists
On 6 April 2018, as part of World Skin Health Day, the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) undertook a wide variety of activities to promote skin health.
From press conferences to health education programmes, including giving talks on radio and TV. They also held rallies and ran clinics to provide treatment, with over 200 activities taking place across India treating 25,000 patients.
A press conference held by the IADVL leadership including President Dr Ramesh Bhat M, President Elect Dr Narasimha Rao, and Past President Dr Yogesh Marfatia, was attended by more than 50 journalists and TV reporters. It lasted 3 hours and was livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.
In Bihar World Skin Health Day activities took place in more than 18 districts. There were health camps, leaflets distribution, skin health counselling and awareness sessions, media coverage as well as a press release. A CME event was organised followed by a “DERMAWALK” by the participants.
Kerala completed press conferences and sent out a press release, as well as running awareness classes for the public and providing clinics. They also ran a competition for undergraduate students to design pamphlets on general skin care to be given to the public.
In Assam organised clinics across the region, most notably the faculty members of Tezpur Medical College organised a camp at the Dhekiajuli Tea Estate where more than 200 patients were seen. They also ran a health education campaign on the common skin conditions, maintenance of personal hygiene and the importance of contacting a specialist dermatologist for any skin conditions.
