RDTC Founder, Henning Grossman, awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany

On Thursday 13 September 2018 Prof Henning Grossmann was presented with the "Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande" - the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, honouring his longstanding commitment to humanitarian dermatology in Africa.
The Order was awarded at Hamburg City Hall by Health Senator Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Prof Grossmann established the Regional Dermatology Training Centre (RDTC) in Moshi, Tanzania with a partnership between the International League of Dermatological Societies and the Tanzanian Ministry of Health, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) on land provided by the Good Samaritan Foundation. He was the Centre’s Director from 1990 to 2006 and then deputy for another seven years. The RDTC provides care to dermatological patients and training to medical Assistants and Clinical Officers. One focus is the care of people with the hereditary disease albinism and leprosy. To date,
the RDTC has trained more than 290 graduates from 17 African countries in its Advanced Diploma in Dermato-Venerology (ADDV).
Prof Grossmann continues to support the Centre, particularly during their Continuing Medical Education (CME) conference every January. The CME provides an important opportunity for graduates to improve their skills and learn from speakers from all over the world.
