World Skin Health Day In Focus: Guinea 2021

For the second year in a row, Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry, in partnership with Clinique Dermatologique, participated in World Skin Health Day. This effort was led by Dr Ibrahima Traoré, an International Society for Dermatology (ISD) member.

To celebrate World Skin Health Day, they hosted a free educational conference on teledermatology, neglected tropical diseases, and skin cancer, attended by a wide range of healthcare students and professionals. Speakers and topics included, but was not limited to:

  • Dr Naomi Boulay | Treatment of hyperpigmentation spots
  • Prof Victoria Williams | Sun Protection for your health
  • Dr Mohamed Saran Condé | Guinea’s Malaria Elimination Efforts
  • Prof Dedee Murrell | Overview of Autoimmune Blistering Diseases
  • Prof Mohammad Jafferany | How to manage Psychocutaneous disorders
  • Dr Ibrahima Traoré | Case study and lessons learnt from World Skin Health Day Guinea 2020
  • Dr Christophe HSU | Teledermatology; the PASSION Project; the Intellistream and Derma2go applications
  • Dr. Darren L. Casey | Skin Care on the run
  • Prof Amor Khachemoune | Non melanoma skin cancer and surgical management with Mohs micrographic surgery
  • Prof Aimilios Lallas | Dermoscopy today
  • Prof Doussou Lancinè Traoré | Rector, Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry

In addition to this, Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry ran a multimedia campaign on skin health. It also provided free dermatological consultations and treatment for People Living with Albinism (PWAs) in Guinea, including sunscreens and further care. In total, they treated 277 PWAs and provided educational resources to patients and their families, including tips on sun protection and reducing the risks of skin cancer.
