International Alliance for the Control of Scabies

International Alliance for the Control of Scabies

The IFD supports the International Alliance for the Control of Scabies (IACS), a global network of researchers, clinicians and public health experts, dedicated to controlling scabies.

The IACS was founded in 2012 with the support of the ILDS and other partners. It has continued to grow and bring together experts from across the globe.

2020
  • Established Consensus Diagnostic Criteria For Scabies to aid training and treatment
  • This criteria helped to reduce misdiagnosis rates, a common challenge in low resource areas.
2019
  • Building off the work of IACS and partners the Murdoch Children's Research Institute was awarded AUD $10M grant to lead a programme to wipe out scabies. Steps include:
    • Map the global populations affected by scabies
    • Establish affordable and reliable access to effective treatments
    • Scale-up drug strategies in highly-affected countries, including Fiji and Solomon Islands
2018
  • Drafted the IACS Consensus Criteria for the Diagnosis of Scabies for research, mapping and surveillance
  • Conducted a Delphi study with global experts
