Philippine General Hospital, Section of Dermatology

Development of mobile teledermatology at the Philippine General Hospital

The Philippines has been contributing the highest number of new leprosy cases detected (approx. 1000-2000/year) in the Western Pacific Region for the past decade. Tropical skin diseases such as yaws and tinea imbricata are prevalent in remote villages of the Southern Philippines. The Section of Dermatology, Philippine General Hospital will use the ILDS DermLink Grant to establish a formal mobile teledermatology referral service and a technical support service for public health physicians. This will primarily be for leprosy control and other skin-related neglected tropical diseases and, secondarily, for the diagnosis and management of other skin diseases and for continuing medical education.
