Patients and the WCD

Patient involvement is an important aspect of the World Congress of Dermatology (WCD). Their involvement in 2015 and 2019 is outlined below.

23rd World Congress of Dermatology, Vancouver, Canada, June 2015
In June 2015, with support from the WCD 2015, the ILDS, Canadian Dermatology Association and Canadian Skin Patient Alliance, dermatology patient organisations from around the globe assembled for the first time ever during the WCD in Vancouver, Canada.

Attended by 125 delegates from 25 countries, representing 60 skin patient organisations, those assembled unanimously agreed to the establishment of a global umbrella organisation to serve the needs of people living with dermatological conditions. Out of that inaugural gathering was born a global patient-led movement to improve the lives of all dermatology patients; the International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organizations (IADPO – also known as GlobalSkin), a not-for-profit organisation, was founded to lead this global skin movement.

24th World Congress of Dermatology, Milan, Italy, June 2019
During the 24th World Congress of Dermatology in June 2019 the Patient and Dermatology Community Village featured 44 organisation booths including patients’ organisations, scientific societies, publishing companies and WCD 2023 Candidate Cities. The Village played an important role in raising the profile of patients’ organisations and their role as an integrated part of the dermatology community.

Patients’ organisations were offered an exhibition booth (including two exhibitor passes) in the Patient and Dermatology Community Village.

We invite patients’ organisations interested in having an exhibition booth at the 25th World Congress of Dermatology in Singapore, 3-7 July 2023, to contact us to express their interest on info@ilds.org.
